‘Turning Red’ to skip theatre premiere in favour of Disney+ release

Turning Red will debut solely on Disney on March 11 th.

The brand-new feature film has plenty of Canadian connections. Chinese-born and Toronto-raised author and director Domee Shi is the brains behind the operation. Shi formerly won an Oscar for her 2018 animated brief Bao

Turning Red is based in Toronto and follows teen Meilin (played by Rosalie Chiang) who develops into a huge red panda whenever she gets delighted. She’s continuously followed around by her mom (played by Sandra Oh).

The CN Tower and Toronto’s popular Chinatown are a few of the popular landmarks exposed in the trailer.

Turning Red is the 3rd Pixar movie to debut on the streaming service rather of opening in theatres, according to Fandango editor Erik Davis

A Disney subscription costs $1199 a month or $11999 a year.
